Turning complex institutions into clear, compelling experiences
Education sits at the intersection of legacy, innovation, and expectation.
They are often decentralized and content-heavy, built on deeply held academic identities. Departments operate independently. Messaging fragments. Digital experiences layer over time rather than being intentionally designed. The challenge isn’t modernization — it’s alignment.
Alignment of brand, voice, structure, and experience, brought together to make institutions clearer, easier to navigate, and more compelling to engage with.
Harvard GSD
A scalable multisite ecosystem for one of the world’s leading design schools.
We restructured the Harvard Graduate School of Design website experience from the ground up — designing and developing a modular, multisite WordPress platform built to support complex academic structures across architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, and design research programs.
The challenge was scale and fragmentation. Multiple departments, contributors, and content types existed across disconnected systems, making it difficult for prospective students, faculty, and researchers to navigate and engage. We introduced a flexible design system and intuitive information architecture that unified the experience while allowing each program to maintain its own identity.
The result is a high-performing academic website platform that improves usability, supports content governance, and enables distributed teams to manage and publish content with consistency and control. A digital foundation designed for long-term scalability — built to support recruitment, storytelling, and ongoing institutional growth.
i-Ready– Curriculum Associates
Reimagining i-Ready and Brigance
Curriculum Associates partnered with Tank Design to refine and elevate its flagship education brands, i-Ready and Brigance, aligning them with the company’s mission to create better classroom experiences for teachers, students, and school administrators. i-Ready, a widely adopted digital learning platform for personalized instruction and assessment, required a clearer brand architecture to better communicate its full suite of products and services across K–12 education environments.
Tank restructured the i-Ready brand architecture to define product offerings, improve clarity across digital and marketing touchpoints, and support long-term scalability. Using Tank’s Design-Driven Brand Framework, we created a cohesive brand system and messaging platform that strengthens engagement with educators, supports adoption across school districts, and enhances the overall user experience.
For Brigance, a trusted early childhood and special education assessment solution, Tank refreshed the logo and visual identity to align with the evolved i-Ready system. By translating the geometric design principles and visual language of i-Ready into the Brigance brand, we created consistency across Curriculum Associates’ product portfolio while maintaining the integrity and purpose of each platform.
The result is a unified K–12 education brand system that improves brand recognition, streamlines communication across products, and delivers a more cohesive experience for educators, administrators, and students across digital learning and assessment platforms.
MIT – Visual Arts Program
An experimental platform for an experimental program.
We designed the experience as a direct reflection of the work itself, not as a traditional academic website, but as an extension of the program’s creative ethos. Navigation wasn’t a menu. It was a system of discovery.
At the center of the experience was a coil of thread, a dynamic, evolving form brought to life through stop-motion photography. As users engaged, threads revealed connections between artists, ideas, disciplines, and research, turning exploration into a visual and interactive act.
This approach reframed how content was organized and experienced. Faculty, students, and work were no longer siloed. Instead, they existed within an interconnected system that mirrored the way creative thinking actually happens inside the program.
The result was a living interface, one that emphasized process over presentation, exploration over hierarchy, and connection over categorization. A digital experience that behaves like the work it represents, rather than reducing it to a static academic artifact.
A platform that doesn’t explain the program. It embodies it.
Northeastern University – College of Arts, Media and Design(CAMD)
Reframing how students discover their path.
CAMD is an interdisciplinary college within a complex university system — rich in opportunity, but difficult to navigate. Through research, we uncovered a critical truth: prospective students didn’t think in terms of majors. They thought in terms of passions.
We restructured the experience around that insight. Instead of forcing users into predefined academic paths, we created a dynamic system that allowed students to explore programs, co-ops, and outcomes through their interests.
The result was a more intuitive, human-centered platform — one that reflected the fluid, exploratory nature of CAMD itself, and made the breadth of opportunity not just visible, but actionable.
Northeastern University – Khoury College of Computer Science
A bold expression of what computer science can be.
Khoury College is built on a simple but transformative idea: CS for Everyone. In a world where computing shapes every industry, every discipline, and every future, the brand needed to reflect a new reality. Computer science is no longer confined to specialists. It is a foundation for how the world works.
We brought this idea to life through a brand system designed to expand, not constrain. A flexible, expressive visual language that could move across programs, research, and disciplines. One that balances technical rigor with human accessibility, making complex ideas in AI, data science, and software development feel open, relevant, and within reach.
The system was designed to scale with the ambition of the college, extending across digital platforms, communications, and environments. It creates a unified presence while allowing for diversity of thought, exploration, and voice.
The result is more than a brand. It is a platform for possibility. One that positions Khoury not just as a leader in computer science education, but as a force shaping what comes next.
University of California
Aligning UCAL’s Mission with Intuitive Digital Architecture
Tank Design partnered with the University of California to reimagine their digital presence through the “Boldly California” initiative. Our work included creating an intuitive information architecture and wireframes to streamline navigation across key content areas, such as academic programs, admissions, and research. We developed a scalable design system with reusable components, ensuring consistency while allowing for flexibility across various departments.
The website’s responsive, mobile-first design catered to the needs of students and faculty on the go, while maintaining accessibility standards to engage a diverse audience. This project demonstrates Tank’s ability to align innovative design with strategic goals, delivering a seamless and engaging digital experience.
